Things You'll See During Your Tour

Take a trip on the wild side and embark on a Patagonia Cruise and Hiking Tour with Tourlane. You’ll experience the best that Argentina and Chile have to offer. The magic of El Calafate and El Perito prelude to the real highlight of your trip: a five-day cruise on the Australis from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia. Gaze in wonder at the endless Patagonian beyond as you enjoy the comfort of a state-of-the-art cruise ship. End your trip in the cultural hub that is Buenos Aires. Planning your own Patagonia cruise and hiking tour around Chile and Argentina isn’t easy. With Tourlane, we make it possible to book everything in one place, from start to finish.

Buenos Aires Recoleta

1. Buenos Aires

Start your tour of Argentina and Chile in the Paris of South America: Buenos Aires. Take a private walking tour and experience La Boca, the birthplace of tango, Palermo, with its green parks, and la Recoleta, home to the stunning Teatro Colón. At night, get your dancing shoes ready and experience a Dinner Tango Show at Gala Tango, a renowned institution of the dance. Need some liquid courage? A glass of red always helps.

2. El Calafate

Today, you’ll travel to El Calafate on the southwestern border between Argentina and Chile. Explore Patagonia’s wild side today: get an up-close view of Perito Moreno or, alternatively, take a chartered boat trip over the lake to see other glaciers such as Upsala, Spegazzini and Onelli. Hike the trails of Los Glaciares National Park—walking stick in hand—and see condors among the green trees of the Patagonian landscape.

South America, Chile, Patagonia, view of a hiker in Torres del Pain with a sweeping view of snowy mountains, glacial lakes, and forest.

3. Torres del Paine National Park

After a few days in El Calafate, your next stop will be at one of the best national parks in the world. The Torres del Paine National Park is one of the wonders of the Southern Cone, and on an early morning hike to the top of the eponymous towers of the park, alongside the turquoise lake that sits below it, you’ll see why. If you’ve got a craving for adrenaline, go for a kayak along the azure waters of the park, or hop on a horse and head into Chile with the Gauchos. There is no shortage of activity here—pick your fix and run with it.

4. Patagonia Cruise: Australis Expeditions

Today, you’ll wake up one final time in the Patagonia Camp before heading on to a real treat: a cruise expedition aboard the Australis through the heart of Patagonia. Wake up and see the sunlight rising over the Beagle Channel, and clean your hiking boots—you’ll be hiking through icy glaciers and plenty of walking trails. Sit back, enjoy the views, and don’t forget to take a picture of that epic amber sunset as you round Cape Horn.

South America, Argentina, view of Ushuaia offshore with snowy mountains in the background.

5. Ushuaia

Explore Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego province, and the southernmost city in the world. Start with a trip to the lighthouse at Les Eclaireurs, often called “The Lighthouse at the End of the World,” where beauty meets extremity. If you’re seeking something for the mind, head to the Museo del Fin del Mundo, the perfect place to soak in the history of Tierra del Fuego and its development into the city it is today.

South America, Argentina, colorful houses of the La Boca neighborhood.

6. Buenos Aires

End your trip where you started in Buenos Aires.  Make use of your last evening in the city to explore something you may not have had time to do on your walking tour at the beginning of your trip—which means hitting the Feria de San Telmo, a market with over 250 booths. Shop for some souvenirs before heading stateside, and don’t forget to look out for chow down on an asado one last time.
