1. Venice Beach

A diverse experience on your Los Angeles vacation awaits with a visit to the 4.5-kilometer sandy beach that connects south to Santa Monica Beach. The motto of Venice Beach is "See and be seen". Thus, the beach is a popular meeting place for athletes who steel their muscles here under the open sky. The Muscle Beach area is world famous among bodybuilders. In addition, basketball players, inline skaters and skateboarders often train on the Boardwalk. The ocean is also sporty and you can watch wind and kite surfers throw themselves into the waves. Or maybe you'd like to try your hand at surfing yourself. We recommend renting a bike at the Boardwalk and taking a tour of the 20 mile bike path along the coast.

2. Santa Monica

The landmark of this sun-drenched city in Los Angeles County is the Santa Monica Pier, which stretches from Colorado Avenue across the fine sandy beach and out into the Pacific Ocean. The pier beckons with a Ferris wheel and has been used as a movie set several times. Santa Monica is also the end of the legendary Route 66. If you feel like shopping, visit the Third Street Promenade with its boutiques, street artists and restaurants. For something a little quieter, head to the manicured Palisades Park along Ocean Avenue, where you can picnic in the shade of fig and eucalyptus trees.

3. Hollywood Walk of Fame

A special fun part of your Los Angeles trip is to look for the names of your favorite actors and singers on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, the names of many famous entertainers have been immortalized in pink terrazzo stars. Also visit the TCL Chinese Theatre, where many celebrities have left their hand and footprints in the concrete.

4. Universal Studios Hollywood

One of the most popular attractions in L.A. is Universal Studios in Hollywood. Not only are these the largest movie studio in the world and offer an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the film industry, but today they also entice visitors with fast-paced roller coasters and entertaining action shows. However, the highlight of Universal Studios is undoubtedly the rides through the original sets of famous movies such as ''Spider Man'', ''Jurassic Park'', ''King Kong'' and ''Psycho''.

5. Hollywood Sign

The world-famous Los Angeles landmark stands atop Mount Lee with its 14-foot-tall white letters. The full lettering of the sign, erected in 1923, once read ''Hollywoodland'' and was meant to promote the real estate trade in the area. The best view of the Hollywood Sign is from Canyon Lake Drive near the Hollywood Reservoir. You can also get great photos of Hollywood's trademark from Griffith Observatory or Mulholland Drive.
