Hollywood Boulevard is one of the most popular attractions in Hollywood—and for good reason. This famed stretch of road is packed with famous landmarks like the Walk of Fame, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and Madame Tussaud’s wax museum. If you love memorabilia, stop by the Hollywood Museum or walk the red carpet at the Dolby Theater. While it’s full of kitsch and touristy spots, it’s also a mecca for Old Hollywood glitz like the legendary Roosevelt Hotel, the Egyptian Movie Theater, and Musso and Frank Grill. If it’s your first time in La-La Land, this is a must-see destination that has more to offer than meets the eye.
Originally created as the “Hollywoodland” Sign in 1923, this iconic sign is still standing a century later. When you think of Hollywood, this iconic hillside sign is probably one of the first things that come to mind. If the skies are clear, there are several ways to see the sign, such as the viewing bridges at the Hollywood & Highland complex on Hollywood Boulevard. However, you’re better off booking a horseback riding tour at the Sunset Ranch or hiking to the Griffith Observatory for a guaranteed photo-op of this famous site. Ask your Travel Expert for more information about adding a Hollywood Hills tour to your Hollywood vacation.
Most visitors want a taste of the movie star culture that has put Hollywood on the map, and a studio tour is one of the best ways to experience it. Paramount Pictures is among the oldest studios and the last remaining major studio with headquarters in Hollywood. They offer both standard studio tours and VIP tours that give visitors a unique chance to visit filming locations, walk among top industry talent, and see what goes on behind-the-scenes at a live working studio. Paramount is a working studio and does not stage things for tours, so it’s an incredible experience that’s different every time. And make sure to have your camera handy—they are the only studio that lets you take pictures.
Nestled in the heart of Barnsdall Art Park on a hilltop in East Hollywood, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House is an architectural masterpiece. Hollyhock House was Wright’s first Los Angeles commission, designed as the personal residence of the oil heiress Aline Barnsdall who imagined a space that would be half house and half garden. As a result, the house seamlessly integrates interior and exterior spaces using numerous terraces, colonnades, and pergolas. Barnsdall’s favorite flower, the hollyhock, inspired the central decorative theme and appeared throughout the house on stained glass windows, roof finials, and planters.
Hollywood isn’t all glitz and glam. There’s also plenty of outdoor activities to keep you busy. Runyon Canyon is a beloved local hiking spot right in the middle of the city with 160-acres of dog-friendly hiking trails that offer everyone (even celebrities) some respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re there for a quick walk or a more challenging hike, Runyon Canyon guarantees spectacular, scenic views that stretch out for miles—you can even glimpse the Hollywood Sign from its loftier trails.
