1. Edinburgh
Your Scottish Tour starts in Edinburgh, Scotland’s enchanting capital city. Gaze over the city from the ramparts of the castle, standing on volcanic rock that has been settled since the Iron Age, before heading down to Princes Street, where the pubs are older than the USA. Next, you’ll drive along the coast of Fife to St Andrews, where you’ll visit the oldest golf course in the world and the oldest university in Scotland.
2. Ballater
Drive north to Ballater in the Cairngorm mountains, the heart of the Scottish Highlands. You’ll spend two nights in a hotel here. Keep a lookout for golden eagles, stags, and the Big Grey Man of Ben Macdhui, a yeti who roams these snowy peaks. You’ll enjoy a Aberdeen Angus beef tasting lunch in a traditional hunting lodge, accompanied by the sounds of pipers on the banks of Loch Kinord.
3. Inverness
Next, you’ll be driven by the premium mini coach to Inverness, which is the UK’s northernmost city. It’s also a place where Mary Queen of Scots ruled with Clan Fraser of Lovat during the Tudor era. Your experienced group leader will take you to Culloden Moor, where you’ll learn about the last battle on British soil, which was fought in 1746. Another highlight of your tour itinerary is a guided visit to Inverness Castle, where Macbeth murdered Duncan. You’ll spend two nights in Inverness.
4. Isle of Skye
After traveling west onboard the mini coach, you’ll arrive on the Isle of Skye, one of Scotland’s island wonders. Spend a day among the green moorland and grey mountains, hiking the Quiraing, Loch Coruisk, and the Black Cuillin. Take a trip to Dunvegan Castle, the home of Clan MacLeod—they’re still proud to call this castle home. End a day with a meal of Atlantic cockles, oysters, and salmon, washed down with a dram of the finest Talisker Single Malt Whisky. You’ll spend two nights on the Isle of Skye.
5. Isle of Mull
Next, it’s a short ferry ride to the Isle of Mull, which is included in your vacation package. Enjoy the colorful buildings on the Tobermory harbor, where fishermen have returned to the shores with their catch for centuries. While on the Isle of Mull, you’ll be taken on a guided visit to fascinating Duart Castle, the historical seat of Clan MacLean. After this, you’ll be taken on a boat excursion to Iona, a sacred island where the Lords of the Isles and clan chiefs were buried—the perfect place to round off your Caledonian conquest. You’ll then return to Edinburgh, where your Scottish Tour ends.
