Immerse yourself in the fascinating culture and architecture of Glasgow to round things off. A road trip is a great way to explore this magical country. Your Tourlane Travel Expert will organize your flights, car rental, and accommodation, with 24-hour emergency service available to all customers.
1. Edinburgh
Your Scotland Road Trip starts in the capital, Edinburgh, where you’ll spend two nights in a hotel. Check out the Old Town and the cobblestones of the Royal Mile. The walls of Edinburgh Castle provide a backdrop for busking bagpipers—it’s quite the spectacle. Visit the National Museum and a Grand Gallery that’s full of Scottish innovation. Your tour package includes a 7-day Historic Scotland Explorer Pass, ensuring you have free entry to all attractions mentioned. Scale a mountain named Arthur’s Seat for cinematic views of a traditional and lively city.
2. St. Andrews and Aberdeen
Drive the east coast to St. Andrews, home of the oldest golf course in the world, and the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral. Stand on sand dunes of the North Sea at Balmedie Beach, and spot a pod of bottlenose dolphins after walking the Brig o’ Balgownie in Seaton Park. Next, head north to Aberdeen, where you’ll spend two nights. Round off the day with Aberdeen Angus beef dry-aged for a month.
3. Inverness
Drive two and a half hours west to Inverness, where you’ll also spend two nights. Start your day in Inverness with a boat ride across Loch Ness in search of a monster known to rise like mist from freshwater. Even if you don't see Nessie, the epic surroundings more than make up for it—in the Scottish Highlands, views are a beautiful distraction. On land, explore Clava Cairns ancient stones that stand tall among mossy grass—up north, history and nature are inseparable. If you like to dance, get ready for an evening hootenanny, a dance where kilts swirl to the sound of stomping feet.
4. Glasgow
Your tour ends with a night in the cultural hub of Glasgow. After a morning exploring the serene cemetery, Glasgow Necropolis, explore the lanes of the trendy West End, swinging by Ashton Lane to enjoy bistro bites and a funky cocktail. If you’re interested in art, spend an afternoon admiring Dali’s masterpiece Christ of St John of the Cross at the prestigious Kelvingrove Museum. End your vacation with one last meal in Scotland, and reflect on the memories of the last seven days touring this wonderful country.
