Start your Amalfi Coast vacation in Sorrento, a beautiful town that overlooks the Bay of Naples. If you’re flying into either Rome or Naples, Sorrento is easily reachable by train. Our Travel Experts recommend using public transportation instead of driving. Upon arrival in Sorrento, kick off your Amalfi Coast vacation with a quintessentially Italian meal overlooking the bay and round it off with some local limoncello - an Italian liquor which this region is famous for.
Synonymous with glamor and exclusivity, the small island of Capri is only reachable by boat. You can get to Capri by ferry from Naples, Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi, as well as private boat transfer. Upon arrival, ride the famous funicular lift up the hillside to Capri town. Here, you will find spectacular views of the mainland, as well as the best shopping on the island. If you’re more interested in admiring Capri’s spectacular geology and landscapes, take another boat ride around the island. Highlights include the spectacular Blue Grotto and the Arco Naturale - a huge rock formation that you’ll pass through while at sea.
The vibrant town of Positano is the beating heart of the Amalfi Coast. Its steeply sided hills and colorful villas that overlook the Mediteranean are picture-perfect and instantly recognizable. You’ll find charming wine bars, tempting boutiques, and a number of world-class restaurants serving up freshly caught fish and locally grown produce. You’ll be reminded why Italian food is beloved the world over - our Travel Experts will provide you with customized insider tips to suit your tastes. As the day draws to a close, head to a hillside bar for a sunset like no other.
One of the prettiest towns along the coast, Amalfi delights visitors with its winding streets, hidden gems, and dramatic architecture, including the 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral. If you’re looking for shops, a beach, and attractions all within walking distance, Amalfi is a great place to base yourself during your Amalfi Coast vacation. Neighboring towns such as Positano and Sorrento are easily reachable thanks to a cheap and regular bus service.
The Amalfi Coast is extremely busy in peak season (June-August). The shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) are less crowded and the weather is still glorious. Your Tourlane Travel Expert will gladly provide more information.
