Plan a special Game of Thrones tour of Ireland with Tourlane. While Westeros may only live in your imagination, the epic landscapes where the fantasy series was filmed are very real. Explore where seasons 1 to seven were filmed on your tour of northeastern Ireland. Visit Castle Ward, the real-life Winterfell, and the north Antrim coastline, which you may recognize as Lordsport Harbor. As you explore the Dothraki Grasslands and Beric Dondarrion's hideout, you’ll also get to know the “Emerald Isle” and leave as a fan of this legendary country as well. With Tourlane, you are able to book your flights, accommodations, transfers, and private guide - all in one place!
1. Dublin
Begin your Game of Thrones Ireland tour on the cobbled streets of Dublin. Take a turn around the Georgian campus of Trinity College, where the legendary Book of Kells is on display, and pop over to Grafton Street if you are in the mood for some shopping. Finish your day with a pint at the Guinness storehouse—check out the rooftop bar for legendary views. We recommend trying the delicious oysters of this port town - ask your Tourlane Travel Expert for insider tips about where to find the best ones in town.
2. Castle Ward
Next, you’ll travel to Belfast, with plenty of highlights on the way. Between Dublin and Belfast is Trim Castle, situated on the banks of the River Boyne - the largest Norman castle in Ireland. After this, you’ll head to Brú na Bóinne - the Neolithic tombs in the same river valley. Further north, you’ll visit Castle Ward, where many of the Winterfell scenes were filmed. After a full day of sightseeing, you’ll arrive in the capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast.
3. Antrim Coastline
As a Game of Thrones fan, do you remember when Theon Greyjoy returns home to Lordsport Harbor? Today, you’ll make your way to the Antrim coastline, where this and many other Game of Thrones scenes were filmed. Delve further into the Games of Thrones at Steensons Jewellers, the craftsmen who designed much of the show’s jewelry. In the afternoon, you’ll create your own adventure at the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge—65 feet long over a seven-story drop.
4. Giant’s Causeway
On your way to Londonderry, you’ll visit the Giant’s Causeway: a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk the basalt columns that are said to have been built by warring Giants long ago. Next, explore the City of Londonderry on a walking tour, and be sure to get a picture of one of the city’s arched gates. After lunch, head west to the wilds of Glenveagh National Park and Castle. Enjoy the 40,000 lush acres in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains.
5. Country Donegal
Next on your tour, you’ll begin journeying south to the Fermanagh Lake District and the elegant 18th-century mansion, Castle Coole, nestled in the wooded park. After this, you’ll visit the Marble Arch Caves: a fantastical underground world of rivers, waterfalls, passages, and chambers. Discover this subterranean network with a private guide by your side. Finally, you’ll return to Dublin, where your tour ends.
