Embark on this tour of Ireland by car and you’ll visit some of the country’s top attractions and experience the culture of this storied land. You’ll hop from vibrant urban centers to the rugged countryside—and back again—taking in the sites and sounds that make the “Emerald Isle” such a celebrated destination. The classic tour of Ireland itinerary includes Dublin, Connemara, Killarney, and Limerick. Your Tourlane Travel Expert will help you organize your flights, guides, and accommodations, all in one place!
1. Dublin
Your classic tour of Ireland will start after you land in beautiful Dublin, named after the black pool that lies beneath the grounds of Dublin Castle. Take a sightseeing tour of the city and relish in the beauty of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest church. In the afternoon, top it off with a visit to one of the many pubs at Temple Bar—Guinness tastes fresher closer to the source. Take a walk through the Dublin Castle across the Dubhlinn Gardens, spotting the Record Tower as you go. If you like live folk music, round off your day with a visit to Merry Ploughboys Irish Music Pub.
2. Connemara
Next up, you will drive to an area full of contrasts: the dramatic county of Connemara in western Ireland that borders the Atlantic. The stone walls, small farms, thatched cottages and isolated splendor of the heather-covered hills will enchant you. You’ll journey to the lake-dotted center of Connemara known as Maam Cross. The road continues through the colorful town of Clifden, and on to the Irish speaking lowlands of Southern Connemara, with its countless beautiful lakes - perfect for those who love the great outdoors.
3. County Kerry & Killarney
Next on your classic tour of Ireland is County Kerry and Killarney. Starting along the Black Head coastal route, you’ll reach the unique moon-like landscape of the Burren. From mountains and peat bogs to lakes and magnificent views of the Atlantic, you’ll experience this region to the fullest on your journey along its coastal road. Killarney is a charming town on the edge of Lough Leane and a natural stopping point along this scenic route.
4. Limerick
Next up on your tour is the county of Limerick, where coastal scenery meets ring forts, crosses, and ancient monuments. You’ll also have the chance to explore the Dingle Peninsula, where quaint fishing villages make you feel at home with their warm restaurants and ancient cobblestone roads. Ask your Tourlane Travel Expert for restaurant recommendations and insider tips. Don’t forget to explore Slea Head, which offers one of the most spectacular views of the deserted Blasket Islands—Sláinte!
