1. Reykjavík
Your Icelandic walking tour starts in the northernmost capital of the world: Reykjavík. On arrival, you'll find an exciting art, food and design scene. Numerous events provide the best entertainment and interesting museums offer an insight into Icelandic culture. Visit the National Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Harpa Concert Hall or the Saga Museum, which introduces you to the world of the native trolls and elves.
2. Stykkishólmur
Your hiking adventure begins in Stykkishólmur, where you will find colourful houses, a folklore museum, and a modern church, as well as Helgafell's local mountain. Visit the Borgarfjörður area in the morning. Here you will find many highlights such as the thermal spring Deildartunguhver, the medieval Reykholt centre, and the Hraunfossar waterfalls. In the afternoon, you will hike to Eldborg Crater.
3. Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Next day in the land of ice and fire! You'll drive around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, where you'll find endless green landscapes, rolling hills, dramatic cliffs, golden beaches, and impressive lava fields - all this variety located within just 60 miles! The glittering glacier Snaefellsjökull towers above all these picturesque natural scenery. The hike leads from Arnarstapi to Hellnar and back.
4. Hvalfjörður
Start early in the morning southwards towards Hvalfjörður Fjord, where the hiking route leads up the Glymsgil gorge to see the highest waterfall in Iceland, Glymur. The starting point of the hike is at the deep end of Hvalfjörður Fjord, north of Reykjavík, south of the picturesque town of Borgarnes. After finishing the hike, you continue your journey to the along the Golden Circle.
5. The Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is one of the most popular destinations in Iceland, and for good reason! Highlights include the beautiful Þingvellir National Park, Geyser hot springs, and the impressive Gullfoss waterfall. Under Laugarvatn, an entrance fee to the Fontana Spa is included. No hiking tour is planned for this day.
6. Reykjadalur
The village of Hveragerði is known for hot springs, greenhouses, and Kjörís ice cream. It was once home to Tívolí, Iceland's only amusement park at the time, and a common Sunday excursion destination for the families. One of the most popular Icelandic walks also starts from Hveragerði, the walk in the valley of Reykjadalur. At the end of the hike, a special reward awaits you: a swim in the warm river!
7. The South Coast
Explore the south coast of Iceland, which awaits you with waterfalls and other natural wonders! Visit the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Here, follow a hiking trail that leads you behind the wall of water. Nearby is Skógafoss waterfall, which is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. A must-see on this hiking tour is a stop at Cape Dyrhólaey and the fascinating black beach of Reynisfjara.
8. Reykjanes Peninsula
Start early with a drive to the Reykjanes peninsula. Here, you should definitely allow time to visit the area of Krýsuvík hot springs, the Blue Lagoon, the Brimketil lava rock pool, the Gunnuhver hot spring, and the bird rocks of Reykjanestá. The easy hike leads to the top of Mount Keilir. Alternatively, choose a hike to Trölladyngja, a shield volcano. Both routes are equally breathtaking!
9. Reykjavík and Mount Esja
Return to Reykjavík and hike to the top of the mountain that forms the backdrop to the city: Mount Esja. The last 100 feet lead through rocky cliffs and are not for those who are afraid of heights. But even before that, you will be able to enjoy a phenomenal view over the city. Say goodbye to this magical island and return home with countless memories in your luggage!
