World-class food, wine, and cities
For some travelers, France is about the wine of Bordeaux, and for others, the world-famous landmarks and art of Paris. Indulge in sumptuous cuisine, kick back in cozy wine cellars in medieval alleys, and start every morning with a pain au chocolat and cafe au lait. Head to the south and you’ll find Mediteranean beaches and elegant resorts.
Live and breathe French culture and history by visiting the legendary capital, Paris. You’ll immediately notice the iconic Eiffel Tower - completed in 1889, this is the jewel in Paris’ skyline, and one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks. In the evening, we recommend admiring the tower from the Champ de Mars, when 20,000 light bulbs illuminate the landmark with a dazzling light show. If you’re interested in art, check out some of Paris’ excellent galleries, such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Louvre.
If you’re interested in history, then head to the old royal town of Versailles that sits just outside Paris and draws visitors year-round with its opulent architecture and exquisite gardens. Enter the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV, who began construction in 1631. Tour the residence and gardens including the famous Hall of Mirrors and Marie Antoinette’s retreat, Petit Trianon. Explore the 2,014 acres by foot, bicycle, or golf cart encountering plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants along the way.
Located just off the northern coast of France, the island community of Mont Saint-Michel looks like it belongs in a fairytale. This unique UNESCO World Heritage site towers spectacularly out of the surrounding ocean. Explore the tiny village and be ready to climb some stairs as you take in the Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The view from the abbey is well worth the climb. It is approximately four hours drive from Paris.
If you’re passionate about wine, then look no further: Bordeaux has been producing wine for 10 centuries. The “Sleeping Beauty” of France will enchant you with its 18th-century facades and cosmopolitan attitude. Whether it’s a hip new restaurant or the Jardin Public, inspired by the gardens of Versailles, in Bordeaux, it’s all about the atmosphere. Take some time to stroll its beautiful streets, and be sure to slurp fresh oysters and local varieties.
