What to See During Your Udaipur Tour?
1. Jagdish Temple
Proudly towering over Udaipur with incredible beauty is the Jagdish Temple. Built in 1651, the Hindu temple is dedicated to Vishnu. The main hall and the two-storey pyramid are adorned with thousands of intricately crafted stone carvings from Hindu mythology. The Jagdish Temple is centrally located in the metropolis and just a few metres away from the City Palace. Since the temple is intensively used by devotees for prayers, be respectful and quiet in the complex.
2. City Palace
It is a true long-term project: since 1567, the kings added more and more complexes to the City Palace of Udaipur. The multifunctional palace is the largest in all of Rajasthan: Rajasthani, Mughal, medieval, European and Chinese influences form a thoroughly harmonious architectural beauty. On your Udaipur trip, arrive as early as possible and find a guide to visit the palace and museum in a relaxed and detailed manner. Plan at least three hours for a visit.
3. Pichhola Lake
Sculpted by man: The epoch-making Pichhola Lake lies quietly just outside Udaipur. The lake has been around since the dam was built in 1362 and is fed only by streams and monsoon rains, so it may dry up completely after long dry spells. Boat trips on Lake Pichhola are particularly beautiful: enjoy the view of the all-surpassing City Palace. Trips to the four small islands are also delightful.
4. Monsoon Palace
Above the clouds: The Monsoon Palace was built by the Maharana Sajjan Singh to gaze at the heavy monsoon clouds that passed over Udaipur. The stately palace is situated on a rocky plateau on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake. Though the Monsoon Palace is unfinished, it shows itself with remarkable beauty. The sunsets that you can enjoy from the Monsoon Palace are a highlight: The city and the vast lakes turn blood red.
5. Fateh Sagar Lake
Together with the Pichhola Lake, the Fateh Sagar Lake forms a refreshing retreat in the west of Udaipur. The dreamy islands floating on the surface of the water like lily pads offer a particularly beautiful spectacle. The rectangular Nehru Park with its zoo and restaurant has a bizarre effect.
