1. Gateway of India
A monument of emotion: The Gateway of India was built in honour of George V, as he was the first British monarch ever to set foot on Indian soil. The 26-meter-high triumphal arch is the landmark of Mumbai and a popular place for walkers. Enjoy the honey-coloured triumphal arch at sunrise and sunset. Its intense colours make a great photo motif. From here ferries leave for the Elephanta Caves.
2. Elephanta Caves
The Elephanta Caves are located just 6 miles from the port of Mumbai. In the Buddhist caves there are several Trimurti statues and representations carved into the basalt, which go back to the main deity Shiva. Go to the caves in the morning, as it is not yet quite as warm. The boat trip takes about an hour - an ideal half-day excursion.
3. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum
An important piece of India: For culture and history lovers, a visit to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Museum is an absolute must on their Mumbai trip. Well over 50,000 exhibits explain Indian art, natural history and shipping. Originally the museum was called "Prince of Wales Museum". 4. Flora Fountain
The Roman goddess Flora is enthroned on the artistically designed Flora Fountain, a play of water, architecture and mythology. The fountain is one of the landmarks of southern Mumbai. Together with the Hutatma Chowk monument, the Flora Fountain forms the "Picadilly Circus of Mumbai". The fountain radiates its special beauty at night.
